Anyone can get sleep apnea even children. Most of the patients that we see in our office range in age from 18 to 75. We have also seen patients as young as 6 that snore and have trouble in school and are often diagnosed with ADD or ADHD. These children often need their tonsils removed and that helps them to breathe better at night This helps them be more focused during the day and sometimes can be taken off of the medication. Sleep Apnea is also hereditary if anyone in your family has a history then you should get check if you have any symptoms. If caught early it can help you to be healthier and also prolong your life. Other factors in Sleep Apnea are smoking and drinking alcohol. Some of our patient say they only snore when they drink and this is because the muscles relax more when you have alcohol in your system and therefore they collapse easier around your airway causing you to have less oxygen in your body. Allergies or nasal congestion may also be a factor with having sleep apnea.
